A doula is a trained non-medical professional who accompanies women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. The doula provides emotional support, physical comfort, and, as needed, communication with the staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. Doulas provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, will make suggestions for labor progress, and will work hard to make sure you are comfortable and relaxed. Most importantly, your doula is there for you and works for you, not your caregiver or the hospital.
My services are always customized to your individual needs. During pregnancy, I provide emotional and logistical support by helping you create a birth plan that fits your unique birth vision. I also support assist you in advocating for yourself and developing confidence in voicing your needs to your care providers. As your birth doula, I help you stay strong and calm during birth. I offer comfort measures, coping techniques, and constant presence to help you create a satisfying birth experience. I want to get to know you and your birth companion(s) prenatally, and will continuously support you and your loved ones during the birth. My goal as your doula is to be completely present for your birth experience--physically, emotionally and energetically. Through using active listening techniques, I will adjust my role according to your needs and seek to promote communication among all members of your birthing team.
