What is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is there to help a new family in those first days and weeks after birth. While parents are learning and adjusting to their new role, postpartum doulas provide a calm and confident presence to help ensure a smooth transition. Doulas, assist with self-care and recovery, breastfeeding support, infant care, meal preparation and help around the house. Doulas can answer questions regarding their newborns and feel confident that they are getting unbiased and relevant information. Doulas also offer emotional support and a listening ear for parents to process their birth experience or support them through the baby blues period. Postpartum doula services for a family can last anywhere from a few days, up to a few weeks after birth. Postpartum doulas assist during the day, but also during the night to help the family through the challenges of nighttime parenting.
As your postpartum doula, it is my goal to help you adjust to the many changes and challenges you may encounter with a new baby. It is my hope that when you have support, those challenges can feel less overwhelming, your confidence may be higher and your new family can bond and flourish. New mother's nurture and care for their babies while their doula nurtures and cares for them.
